A Braillist may want to use a PC for translating documents to Braille when they do not actually have a ViewPlus embosser connected to their machine.  However Tiger Software Suite (TSS) expects to find a ViewPlus embosser among the printer objects in the Devices and Printers control panel.

It is possible to create the printer object without actually connecting the embosser to the machine.  Do do this, use the following steps:

1. Install the printer software and restart the PC.
2. Open Windows Start menu and select Devices and Printers.
3. Click Add Printer
   
4. Choose Add a Local Printer and click Next.
   
5. Select the radio button labeled Use an existing port, and select the File: (Print to File) option in the drop-down menu.  Click Next.
6. Select ViewPlus Technologies from the list on the left, and the model you will be working with on the right.  Click Next
   
7. Select the radio button labeled Use the driver that is currently installed (recommended) and click Next.
   
8. Type a name for your embosser and click Next.
   
9. Select the Radio button labeled Do not share this printer and click Next.  (You may decide to share the printer but that is outside the scope of this article.)
   
10. Clear the check box labeled Set as the default printer and click Finish.  (The TSS add-in has its own place to specify the printer, which may be different from the Windows default printer.)
    
11. Your ViewPlus embosser is now added as an printer object within the Devices and Printers Control panel.  Now you may open Word, Click Add-Ins, Tiger, Formatter Settings, Document Settings, and select your newly installed ViewPlus embosser.
    

When you choose to print to this printer, you will be prompted to save a file.  This will be a PRN file, which someone with just the printer installed may open in Tiger Viewer and print.
